Final Verified Lists of Impaired Waters for the Group 5 Basins
The Department announces the availability of the final lists of
impaired waters for the Group 5 Basins: Perdido, Upper East Coast,
Indian River Lagoon, Springs Coast, Everglades, and Florida Keys. With
the exception of the Florida Keys, these lists for the Group 5 Basins
were adopted by an Order signed by DEP Deputy Secretary Mimi Drew on
December 12th, 2007. The Adoption Order for the Florida Keys was
signed by Secretary Michael Sole on June 3rd, 2008.
The FINAL lists below are another step in the process of restoring
impaired waters for these basins. Now that these waters have been
adopted by Secretarial Order, the Department staff will begin
developing TMDLs for waters on the verified list. A TMDL represents
the maximum amount of pollutant loading that can be discharged to a
water body and have its designated uses be met. The final step in this
process will be the development, by watershed stakeholders and DEP, of
a Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP). The BMAP will specify the
activities, schedule, and funding sources that point and nonpoint
source dischargers will undertake to restore the water body.

* Note: There are no waters to be proposed for delisting

Florida Keys Basin.
Master Lists - None
All of the
waters in the Group 3 basins have been assessed using EPA's new Integrated
Water Quality Assessment process. This process evaluates water quality
data and categorizes water bodies into five categories:
| Category
1 |
Data are
available to assess if all beneficial uses are being met and they are
being met. |
| Category
2 |
Data are
available to assess if some beneficial uses are being met, while
insufficient data are available to assess whether all beneficial uses
are being met |
| Category
3a |
No data
are available to assess if beneficial uses are being met. |
| Category
3b |
Some
data are available, but they are insufficient to assess if beneficial
uses are being met. |
| Category
3c |
Enough
data are available to meet the requirements for the Planning List in
Rule 62-303 and the water body are potentially impaired for one or more
designated uses. |
| Category
4a |
One or
more designated uses is impaired and the TMDL is complete.
|
| Category
4b |
One or
more designated uses is impaired but no TMDL will be developed because
a proposed pollution control measures provides reasonable assurance
that the designated uses will be restored in the future. |
| Category
4c |
One or
more designated uses is impaired but no TMDL will be developed because
the impairment is not caused by a pollutant. |
| Category
5 |
Enough
data are available to meet the requirements for the Verified List in
Rule 62-303. These waters are impaired, will be included on the
state's 303(d) list, and will have TMDLs developed to restore them. |
