Self-Monitoring

Discharge Monitoring Reports

Self-monitoring information generally includes any information which must be reported as a condition of a wastewater facility permit. However, on a routine basis, self-monitoring information is typically comprised of daily, weekly, and monthly effluent quality data. This information is generally reported on either a monthly or quarterly Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) which is issued to the permitted wastewater facility.

Routine self-monitoring data provides the Department with a reliable and fundamental source of a large quantity of effluent monitoring data. This information is reviewed to verify that wastewater facilities are meeting discharges limitations and not impacting ground water or surface water quality. The Department uses this information in conjunction with it inspection activities in order to ensure that the facilities are meeting their discharge limitations and are operating in accordance with Department requirements.

Electronic Reporting (E2-DMR)

As part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to improve business processes, we are working with members of the regulated public to provide paper-less alternatives for environmental reporting using e-Commerce and Internet technologies.

Currently, the Department is working with those wastewater facilities that are signing up to use the new Wastewater Electronic Environmental Discharge Monitoring Report (E2-DMR) System. The Department’s web-enabled E2-DMR System offers the advantage of less process for the regulated community. By offering several streamlined reporting options, the system offers significant labor savings for both the Department and the public. Most importantly, while saving these costs, the system also increases timelines.
