Operator Certification Program
Florida Statutes require anyone who operates a drinking water
treatment plant or a domestic wastewater treatment plant in Florida to
be licensed by the DEP. To qualify for licensure an applicant must meet
minimum educational and work experience requirements for each class of
license. A passing score on the exam for the type and level license
desired by the applicant must also be obtained.

As of October 15, 2007 the revisions to rules
62-602 and
62-699
are now in effect. As many of you know, the DEP has been in the process
of revising theses rules for the last few years. The major thrust behind
this revision was to implement a new licensure category for Water
Distribution System Operators. This new license is mandated by the EPA.

OCP has completed another major step in bringing our Water
Distribution System Operator license on line. We are now able to
accept and process Distribution Licensure
Applications only. Water Distribution examination
applications will be accepted once a firm date has been
established for our first Water Distribution exam.
If you have completed an approved Distribution Training
Course with through FWPCOA, Mitchell Training, Inc. or
University of California at Sacramento prior to October 15,
2007; your requirement to take the state examination has
been fulfilled. Before a DEP license can be issued, you will
still need to submit the following documentation to OCP for
review:
- Copy of a Certification of Completion from FWPCOA,
Mitchell Training, Inc. or University of California at
Sacramento.
- Copy of either your high school diploma or equivalency.
- Verification of actual hours of experience (as required
for appropriate certification level sought).
| - Level 1 (highest level) |
|
10,400 hours of actual experience |
| - Level 2 |
|
6,240 hours of actual experience |
| - Level 3 |
|
2,080 hours of actual experience |
- Completed application
- Licensure Fee of $50.00
If you have completed an approved Distribution Training
Course after October 15, 2007; you will be required to
take and pass a State of Florida Distribution exam prior to
being eligible for licensure. Again, the OCP is not
accepting applications for Distribution System Operator
examinations at this time. We are working diligently to get the
examination process going as soon as possible. Once specific
examination dates are available for us to begin processing
applications and scheduling examinations, we will post that
information on this webpage. We sincerely appreciate your
patience during this period of adjustment and transition. |
